Animals seen:
Family of wild turkeys, fox, deer, a mother bear
with two cubs (twice), bear, Bighorn sheep,
Dall sheep, Marmot, ducks, beaver dam, moose.
Day 1 – July 20, 2016 Winnemuca, NV
We stayed in the RV park recommended by Win Rowe. It was new
and very large and spacious. We would stay there again.

Day 2 – July 21, 2016
Nothing eventful. We stayed in an RV park in Meridian,
Idaho. It was a nice park with long dog runs.

Day 3 and 4 – July 22 and 23, 2016 Lewiston, Idaho
Day 5 – July 24, 2016
We stayed at Bonners Ferry, Idaho at Blue Lake RV
resort. It was a beautiful RV park next to a beautiful lake.

We arrived at Lake Louise knowing beforehand that the RV
campground was full. We knew that there was an overflow campground about
two miles away. We went directly to the overflow campground. Our
research indicated that it was a gravel pit, however, they must have recently
paved and painted white lines. There were no hookups, no water, no sewer
yet they wanted $10.80CND per night. The next morning we started to drive
up to Lake Louise, unfortunately when we arrived there we were told there was
no RV parking. They turned us around and sent us back down the
hill. Traffic was horrendous. When we reached the bottom of the
hill an electronic sign said road closed due to heavy traffic. Bummer! We
then drove to Lake Louise Ski Resort and enjoyed a breakfast buffet. We
then decided to continue through Banff and Jasper National Park. We
stopped at Bridel Veil Falls where Robbie fell into the water the last time we
were here. We attempted to stop at Columbia Glacier however the first parking
lot was closed. They directed us to the second parking lot which was way
to far to walk to the Glacier so we continued through the park.
So far in Canada we have seen a family of wild turkeys, foxes,
deer, a mother bear with two cubs, Bighorn sheep and Dall sheep.
Day 7 – July 26, 2016 McBride, BC
We stayed at N&V Mountain Chalet.
Day 8 – July 27, 2016 Vanderhoof, BC
We stayed at Brookside Resort. There was a very large play area
for Sammy, however, it was extremely dusty.
Day 9, 2016 – July 28, 2016 Houston, BC
We stayed at Shady Rest RV park. It was absolutely
beautiful. It was one of the prettiest parks we have ever stayed
at. The owner had a green thumb and had hanging and potted flowers
everywhere. She had two hot houses where she transplants all those
beautiful flowers in the Fall. The grounds were magnificent. She
recommended we stay at Meziadin Lake Provincial Park the next night.

Beautiful, private spot up on it’s own hill with a view of the
lake and the other campers below us. Site 10. The ranger who came
around to collect our $22 CND said that if he was camping here this would be
the spot he would choose as opposed to the sites right on the lake. It’s
private and secluded. We liked it so much we decided to spend two nights
here. But then our trip has stopped for a few days since Lynne is sick.
We left a campground at 4 this morning (no internet or cell towers) and
backtracked to the nearest hospital and saw the doc around 8.
Day 11 – July 30, 1996 Terrace, BC
She has a bladder infection and perhaps a appendix problem. The
doc said to stay in town for at least 24 hours and hopefully three days. We
filled the prescription and she took the first dose this morning. Finding a campground
was very very difficult since this is a three day weekend in British Columbia.
After driving around for the afternoon and seeing Full or no Vacancy signs we
saw a sign drag races Sunday and Monday at the airport. We went to the airport
thinking racers would be camping on Saturday night and sure enough. Now we are
camped at the Terrance BC airport (internet via our hot spot) with other motor
homes and trailers probably all racers. Lynne is sleeping now (6:12PM).
Hopefully she will be felling better when she awakes. If the problem we will go
back to ER.
Day 10 – July 29, 2016 Maziadin Lake Provincial Park
This
was a beautiful, private spot up on its own hill with a view of the lake and
the other campers below us. It was site# 10.
The ranger who came around to collect our $22 CND said that if he was
camping here this would be the spot he would choose as opposed to the sites
right on the lake. It’s private and
secluded. We liked it so much we decided
to spend two nights here. But suddenly our trip plans changed as Lynne was became very sick. She
started an antibiotic we had in the motor home but we didn’t have a lot of
confidence that we had the correct medication for her. She was in so much pain
that she was crying. We though she was dealing with an appendix issue. I discovered that the nearest hospital was
200 miles back from wence we came. We left the campground at 4 this morning (no
internet or cell towers) and backtracked to the hospital. We saw the doctor at 8:00 A.M.
Day 16 – Thursday, August 4, 2016, Maziadin Lake Provincial Park
We
went to the hospital for the last time this morning to see about paying our
co-pays for the hospital stay. The hospital informed us that we had to pay the
entire amount $3,345CND in full and it was up to us to be reimbursed from our
insurance company since we did not have “travel insurance” whatever that is. We
called our insurance company and after about an hour of talking back and forth
to the hospital and us we finally agreed to pay. So we paid the bill and
obtained our medical records for (hopefully) reimbursement from the insurance
company. I shutter to think what would
happen if were a more serious and more expensive emergency.
We finally left Terrance and have returned to Maziadin Lake Provincial Park where we left
six days ago. We found another nice private spot #22 above the campground and
settled in for the evening. We again purchased two nights since we plan on a
day trip to Alaska tomorrow.
Day 17 – Friday, August 5, 2016, Stewart BC/Hayes Alaska
We left early to see Bear Glacier in British Columbia and the Bear
Viewing Boardwalk in Alaska. The roundtrip along highway 37A was gorgeous. It was actually just as beautiful as
Baniff/Jasper National Parks. The mountains, waterfalls and glaciers were much
closer to the highway than in Baniff/Jasper. The traffic was almost non
existent. There were no tourists at the Bear glacier and four cars, one motor
home and two Harleys at the Bear Viewing Boardwalk. Compared to Baniff/Jasper
where we couldn’t find parking in more than 3/4th of the tourist attractions.
Unfortunately, the bear viewing was a bust since there were no bears, however
the scenery was magnificent. We returned
to the campground only to be eaten by mosquitoes and a hot motor home. We had
to wait until 6pm before we were allowed to turn on the generator to run the
air conditioner. If you want to enter the United States without a passport this
is the way to go. No passport check or anything to enter Hayes, Alaska just
drive across the border. On the other hand Canada has a customs check point
passport required to return plus a lot of stupid questions. Such as do you have
a knife, well of course a big one this is a moving house and no gun, ammo,
pepper spray, bear spray, alcohol. We have only been out of Canada for an
hour.
Day 18 – Saturday August 6, 2016 Mountain Shadow RV park – Iskut,
BC
Twice today bears crossed the road in front of the motor home.
First a mama bear with two cubs then a single bear. This is a beautiful
campground with 30 amp as is most of Canada. There is no sewer connection at
our site. Internet is via satellite that is shared by all 22 sites. It is very
slow, in fact, so slow that we gave up on getting connected. We have just
returned from a “10 minute walk” to the lake that took 45 minutes and we never
made it to the lake although we did see the lake in the distance. Sammy loved
the walk in the woods and drank his share of our water. There is no satellite
TV this far north or from the campground so we’re into our stash of movies
recorded on Dish, DVDs and Robbie’s hard drive.
Day 19 – Sunday August 7, 2106 Watson Lake, Yukon
There are mosquitoes up here! We have both been bitten multiple times. The bites swell up to the size of a
quarter. We were on the road for about
six hours today. We saw a fox and lots
of rabbits but no big game today. We
stopped at the Jade Factory which produces 80% of the world’s Jade. We didn’t buy anything but we did see some
beautiful carved out pieces. We pulled
into the RV park and ran into another
Alaskan caravan. We were parked with another
caravan last night. They all seem to be
going South. We are still going
North. This is an interesting RV
park. It’s the most expensive one we’ve
gone to and yet they have no facility for trash. They suggest pulling out on the road and
using the trash at one of the rest stops.
They also have no Yi-Fi at the site, no sewer at the site and our cell
phone has no coverage. They can charge
this high rate because they’re the only RV park at the intersection of two
major roads. We decided not to go for a walk today. The mosquitoes win!

Day 20 – Monday August 8, 2016 Yukon Wildlife
Preserves
We saw this preserve on television while in
Sparks. The show was Yukon Vet. We
took a two hour bus tour of the preserve.
The animals were all from the wild and most of them arrived at the preserve
because they needed medical help and healing.
We stayed at an RV park at a hot springs campground nearby (Takhini) in
a cluster of Aspen trees.
